Istanbul Journal, 6: Bergama

As our research and explorations in Turkiye are winding down, I realize I haven’t posted a journal entry since January. Time keeps playing its tricks, eh.

Below is a short video presenting some of the beauties of Bergama, a small down in southwestern Turkey near the Aegean coast. It is the site of the ancient Greek town of Pergamon, but my love of Bergama has little to do with that. I simply love strolling thru the quiet streets and alleys of the old section of town, discovering little wonders or being surprised by a sudden monument appearing around a corner. We were there in late December. The weather was chill and rainy much of the time, but I did get one day to capture more light thru my camera lens. As you will see, I mostly concentrate on architecture and architectural details but there are a few portraits as well.

I hope to post 2 more journal entries before we leave: one of our trip to Edirne, another treasure of a town in western Turkey not far from the Greek border, and one of some of the gracious and friendly people in our neighborhood who have helped to make our time here so wonderful.
